Removing the Monetary Barriers to Youth
Removing the monetary barrier to our youth participating in public activities at our recreation centres, our rinks and our pools. #ImagineOurCity where kids 18 and under just walk to an aquatic facility and enjoy some “liquid fun” and don’t have to consider an admission fee.
As part of Surrey First’s Public Safety Plan, we are proud to announce a $30 million commitment to invest in prevention and intervention community programs.
This means 125,000 Surrey children will now have free access to all City pools, rinks and rec centres.
It will also create a new central hub to allow parents to access community resources for their kids with one phone call.
This is an important step forward in supporting Surrey families and keeping young people active, engaged and moving forward in a positive direction.

Farm Fresh Sundays
The last Sunday of the Farm Fresh Sundays is just around the corner. Sunday the 24th (Tuesday the 26 at Tap Restaurant) is the last weekend where you can choose from menus that feature local produce in restaurants in all of our town centres. There has been great feedback and support for this project and I look forward to next year. The imagination of the Chefs, to keep it local and great tasting, is amazing.
Our newest participant, Greek Islands (Fleetwood) will be having a draw for a couple of $50.00 gift certificates for those who order from the Farm Fresh Sunday menu. I wish them well with this added bonus to promote our local agricultural producers. It’s no secret I left there, last Sunday, full and delighted to support our local economy.

SFU Surrey Campus Expansion
Today there was a remarkable announcement made by Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Clark, Mayor Hepner and SFU President Petter, regarding the SFU Surrey campus expansion.
This is a great collaboration of all levels of government, which make this new expansion possible.
The architecture of the late Bing Thom leaves the Downtown Surrey core with legacy building for all to enjoy.
It was said today that “all great Cities have great Universities”. Well said, Mayor Hepner!
